Yesbyjimminy’s leading earner Flay Mignon improved her record to a perfect two-for-two in the $60,000 Colleen S. Sunday at Monmouth Park, winning by nearly two lengths (VIDEO).
Ridden by Paco Lopez, Flay Mignon came out of the gate dueling with Jonesin for Jerry immediately. After speeding through a half-mile in :44.49, Lopez asked his filly, and she responded, drawing away to hit the wire 1 3/4-lengths in front. She covered the five furlongs over firm turf in :56.77.
“I was a little concerned about the turf, but she really impressed me today,” said winning trainer Eddie Plesa Jr., who conditions Flay Mignon for his wife Laurie. “I think she could be one of the best fillies we have in the barn. The Sorority Stakes (G3, at Monmouth on Sept. 1) will be next.”
A homebred out of the Forest Camp mare Forest Retreat, Flay Mignon has earned $60,000 in her two starts.
