Lugamo turned in an eye-catching performance in breaking his maiden on Oct. 16 at Laurel Park, winning the seven-furlong contest for 2-year-olds by a widening six lengths.
The bay son of Chitu, who races for his namesake Lugamo Racing Stable LLC, took the lead from Speightster Red with a half-mile left to run and never looked back, winning in hand under Angel Cruz.
Lugamo was bred in Florida by the Tanma Corp. He is out of the stakes-placed mare Shegoestoeleven and is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Valery Stripe.
With 13 winners to date this year, Chitu is one of Florida’s leading Second-Crop sires. Recently, his 2-year-old colt Windy City Red, already a maiden special winner, placed in the $100,000 Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita Park.
