White Smoke dispatched his foes by 1 1/4-lengths on the Gulfstream Park turf course on Sunday to secure his first win in just his second lifetime start.
The 3-year-old colt is the third winner in the past week for J P’s Gusto, whose runners are winning at a higher percentage than any sire on the Florida Third-Crop Sires list.
After taking up slightly at the break, White Smoke sped up the rail and was right on the heels of a pair of dueling front-runners. Waiting for his cue, he burst through an opening at the top of the stretch, and the aptly-named near-white colt pulled clear late to stop the timer in :56.74 for the five furlongs.
Owned by his breeder Luis Duco Stables Inc., White Smoke picked up $30,800 for the win.
